She worked as a meteorologist from South Carolina’s Lowcountry to North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Von is an expert on hurricanes and severe weather. “I could study the creation of tropical systems and the steering currents that guide them for the rest of my life.”
Von knew she had to be a part of the forecasting process after Hurricane Hugo crashed into the state of South Carolina in 1989. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of South Carolina before moving to Starkville, Mississippi to pursue a Master’s of Science in Geosciences/Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University.
Von is delighted to have worked as a meteorologist during the 2005 hurricane season, which set new records.
When she’s not checking and rechecking her forecast, you’ll find her enjoying the great outdoors with her husband Anthony and three kids, Emmanuel, Shamar, and Marsalis, primarily around the Carolina beaches.
