In 1987, he began his broadcasting career at a small Brockport daytimer radio station. Sales, disc jockeying, and eventually becoming News Director at WASB were some of his early jobs. His broad career took him from Brockport to Warsaw, Canandaigua, and Rochester, where he worked on local radio. While working as a reporter at WHEC-TV and later WROC-TV in Rochester, he developed his flair for visual storytelling. He has worked as a general assignment reporter, weekend anchor, and Daybreak anchor since then.
He attended Buffalo Public Schools and the Buffalo Academy for the Visual and Performing Arts before graduating. He went on to The College at Brockport after graduating from high school, where he majored in Communications, according to his LinkedIn profile. He was a two-sport athlete at Brockport, playing hockey and soccer. His work as a reporter has garnered him two New York State Emmys, a regional Edward R. Murrow Award, and an Associated Press Award.
He was also a member of the crew that won an Emmy for best morning newscast for Daybreak. He takes over as co-anchor of Daybreak alongside Melissa Holmes. Before John Beard replaced him in 2009, he had been in that role alongside Jodi Johnston, and he has been a fill-in anchor during Beard’s travels. Gallivan left the station in 2013 to work for the state government, but he returned months later and has had to fill a variety of responsibilities since then.
