In 2017, during what would become an unprecedented wildfire season in British Columbia, she reported every day for nearly three weeks, traveling throughout the Interior and providing coverage that balanced the evolving statistics associated with the raging blazes with the stories of real people, with real struggles. She traveled to Greece in 2016, equipped with curiosity and compassion, to be on the front lines of Europe’s immigration crisis.
Hundreds of individuals arrived at Lesvos during the frigid winter month of January, predominantly from Syria, Afghanistan, and Iraq, who had risked their lives crossing the Aegean from Turkey to Lesvos. Garcha created a series with an on-the-ground look at the issue by combining footage of the so-called “life jacket graveyard,” a real refugee cemetery, and rescue efforts with interviews with asylum seekers, volunteers, locals, and officials.
She produced a series in 2015 based on footage she shot in Haiti at a volunteer-built school and its connection to a B.C. primary school classroom. Since graduating, she has been a part of the Global News family. She worked as a Vancouver Island correspondent for Global BC, based in Victoria, before securing her current position. She formerly worked at Global Okanagan, reporting from across the lovely valley while residing in Penticton.
Garcha is inspired by her late grandmother, whom she affectionately refers to as Bibi, and the sacrifices her parents made in emigrating to Canada to raise a family, as well as the opportunities this has provided her.
