Matt Doran is an Australian journalist. Doran is currently co-host of Weekend Sunrise with Monique Wright. Previously he has been a reporter for the Seven Network’s flagship public affairs program, Sunday Night and a reporter and presenter at Network Ten.

Education

Doran graduated from Melbourne University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Media and Communications (enriched Journalism major). He also attended and graduated from St Kevin’s College in Toorak, Victoria, completing his Victorian Certificate of Education.

He worked as a police reporter for Melbourne’s Herald Sun newspaper for the entire year of 2006, covering fires, floods, the gangland conflict, and CBD shootings. He worked for News Ltd’s Leader newspaper group for four years as an award-winning reporter and senior editor across a number of mastheads.

Doran later worked for Network Ten in Melbourne and Adelaide for several years as a general news reporter and subsequently a police reporter. During this time, he developed a large network of contacts and a track record of exclusive reports.  Doran was a significant figure in Network Ten’s coverage of a number of natural catastrophes, including the disastrous Christchurch earthquakes, the lethal Pike River mine explosion in New Zealand’s west, the Christmas Island boat tragedy, and the tsunami that wiped out much of North-East Japan.

Doran joined Ten News at Five: Weekend with Natarsha Belling as a presenter in October 2011, but left when the bulletin switched to a single-presenter format with only Belling in November 2012. He continues to work for Ten News as a fill-in presenter and senior correspondent.

Doran took over as host of Ten Eyewitness News Early and Ten Eyewitness News Morning in November 2013.

Doran was succeeded on Ten Eyewitness News Early by Hermione Kitson in January 2014. He continued to host Ten Eyewitness News Morning until it was cancelled in May 2014 owing to budget cuts, at which point he returned to reporting.

Doran left Network Ten in May 2015 after nearly eight years with the network.

He relocated to Los Angeles in 2015 and was named host of Crime Watch Daily, a syndicated true crime news show.

Doran was named host of the third season of Crimes that Shook Australia on Foxtel’s crime and investigation channel in February 2017, which features interviews and dramatic reconstructions of some of Australia’s most frightening crimes.

Doran joined the Seven Network as a correspondent on Sunday Night, the network’s main public affairs show, in March 2017.

He will take over as co-host of Weekend Sunrise from Basil Zempilas on October 12th, according to a press release. He was formerly an occasional fill-in host on the show, and he also fills in for David Koch on Sunrise and Larry Emdur on The Morning Show on a regular basis. Doran joined Natalie Barr as the permanent Friday co-host of Sunrise in January 2021. In March, Koch returned to working a full week.
