Desjardins started her vocation in news coverage at the nearby TV channel WBTW in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in 1998. She worked at the station until 199 when she got terminated.

She proceeded to function as an independent columnist for The Sun News, a Myrtle Beach paper just as an independent correspondent for the news office Reuters.

Desjardins left The Sun News in October 1999 and joined the Columbia NBC-offshoot WIS as a political columnist. While there, she covered the discussion on the showcase of the Confederate Flag at the South Carolina State House. She covered the South Carolina Legislature just as the 2000 Republican official primaries.

In 2003, Desjardins moved to work at the Associated Press where she turned into a newswoman at Washington, D.C. She provided details regarding stories like the 2004 official political race; Medicaid; typhoons; and the Iraq War.

Desjardins began working for CNN in 2005. She worked as the Congress correspondent for CNN Radio and occasionally reported for CNN.com and CNN’s news channel while at CNN. Desjardins was reassigned to CNN’s Washington Bureau, where she worked as a Capitol Hill reporter, until CNN Radio was shut down in 2013.
