Lewis said that they spent around £80,000 on private treatments after having one free round on the NHS. Jones also described how he used to fake a smile and nod along when spending time with friends and family. He felt unable to engage as though he was missing out. His hearing aid has been of great impact and has allowed him to get back to work. However, his return to the screen was a noisy one as he can hear the director and correspondents through an earpiece in his right ear and an amplified, distorted version of his own voice through the hearing aid in his left. He said they got used to wearing a hearing aid did not come easy. He was self-conscious about it.
