In 1980, Chin immigrated to Australia and started translating Chinese-language movies for SBS TV. Chin moved to ABC Radio in both Newcastle and Darwin because she wished to resume broadcasting. Chin relocated to SBS World News in 1987 and began hosting the weekend news there. She remained there until she retired in 2018.
In her career, Chin has played a variety of responsibilities, including news reading, research, reporting, interviews, choosing and programming music, providing voiceovers for advertisements, and generating in-flight entertainment for foreign airlines.
Chin also played a supporting role as a newscaster in Hugh Keays-indie Byrne’s Australian film Resistance. She also appeared in the 1989 Australian miniseries Bangkok Hilton alongside Nicole Kidman in a minor role as a Thai interpreter.

She was introduced as Australia’s representative for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest on May 18, 2015. She awarded Sweden’s Mns Zelmerlöw and his song “Heroes,” which ultimately won, the “all-important” twelve points. When she took on this job again in 2016, she gave Belgian Laura Tesoro and her song “What’s the Pressure” twelve points.
