Oklahoma is the severe weather hub of the United States, and she was fortunate enough to land a couple of internships during the peak of those four severe weather seasons while she was in school. She was an intern at NewsOn6 in Tulsa and News9 in Oklahoma City, where she learnt from two incredible chief meteorologists before her graduation.
At the same time, she was privileged to be the weather anchor for our own student-produced newscast called OU Nightly. They won a student Emmy for the best newscast while in her senior year. She learned the ins and outs of this business from veteran directors and producers before she graduated in May of 2017.
Her first job was at Waco, Texas where she worked as the weekend morning meteorologist. Less than two months after she started her job, Hurricane Harvey hit the Texas coast. When the outer bands swept across central Texas, she was thrown into the fieldwork covering countless tornado warnings and overnight flooding threats for the southeastern counties.
She was also able to experience “Texas” ice storms while in Waco, and the severe weather season! She found Waco was an incredible place to start her career. She attended the University of Oklahoma – home of the National Weather Center and my favorite football team – and graduated with a bachelor of science in Meteorology and minors in both Broadcast Meteorology and Mathematics.
