Guru-Murthy began his career in 1988 with the BBC’s DEF II debate show Open to Question and the youth current-affairs show Reportage. He hosted BBC2’s Asian current-affairs shows East and Network East while at Oxford University. From 1991 until 1994, he hosted and reported for the children’s news program Newsround. For three years, he served as a producer and correspondent for Newsnight, and in 1997, he was one of the first presenters of BBC News 24. In 1998, he joined Channel 4 News.
