Lara’s career kicked off in Palm Springs where she reported on weekends for KESQ. She was promoted to weekend anchor, after one year of reporting. Anxious to sharpen her reporting abilities, she got a subsequent job reporting for the Orange County News Channel. Lara kept on working both in Palm Springs and Orange County until she was recruited to report by KNSD in San Diego.
During Lara’s first year in San Diego, she won an Emmy for an anecdote about a little town close to Tijuana washed away in the 1997 landslides of El Nino. Her two different stories were additionally Emmy-assigned that year. Afterward, Lara won recognitions from the San Diego Press Club.
She has won four Emmys for her role as co-host on Vista L.A, since joining ABC7 Eyewitness News in 2000. With her position as a reporter, she has had the chance to cover everything from breaking news including crimes, fires, and natural disasters to in-depth feature stories.
