Koeller attended Saint Louis University after graduating from Shawnee Mission Northwest High School. He received his Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from the university in 2012. He worked as a Weather Forecaster for three and a half years at the institution, where he gathered model data to prepare a four-day forecast, made video updates three times a week for the Residence Halls and Student Center, and created weather graphics to communicate the weather story. Koeller also worked as a Resident Advisor, where he oversaw sixty freshmen in a hall and helped students connect with campus groups and resources.
