Zawilinski moved to the Midwest for the first time while attending Drake University. Dave began his broadcast career as a sports intern at WOI in Des Moines, Iowa, after graduating. Dave became WOI’s Sports Director in 2012 after numerous years and promotions, covering several NCAA tournaments and bowl games.
He’s a football fan who lives for the big plays, much like the Husker fans he’s meeting. One of his favorite sports stories he’s ever covered is Iowa’s Hail Mary last-second triumph over LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl. You can usually find him on the fairways in his spare time. However, a new family member has kept him rather occupied! In August, he and his wife Kaelin welcomed their first child, Rhett, into the world. We’re confident Rhett will soon have his own set of golf clubs!
What about working in the press does he enjoy the most? “I enjoy the fast-paced journalism environment and being on the cutting edge of information.” It’s always intriguing to relay that information to the viewers, as well as meet new people every day.
