He formerly worked for CBS 3 in Philadelphia for 13 years as a traffic anchor. “I was able to take something as mundane as traffic and make it entertaining. ‘Do you think you could carry this act to TV?’ they asked. Someone to brighten up our morning program would be greatly appreciated.’ This was before the internet, Facebook, and the uploading of images to the internet. You hit TV and it’s like, ‘So that’s what that guy looks like!’”
He was the first traffic anchor in Philadelphia to perform his reports in front of a green screen. He started out as a radio disc jockey. He joined KYW News Radio’s Traffic on the 2s when traffic became a news story.
“I started at 102.9 MGK and worked my way up and down the dial at all the hot stations, but the music business was changing. There were fewer live DJs on the air; everything was prerecorded. ‘Traffic is going to be high,’ my agency warned me. What if you turned it into a DJ set?’ You can’t prerecord traffic because it’s always live. So, rather than talking about the Rolling Stones, I opted to DJ traffic.”
