Siyabonga Nene, professionally known as Big Zulu, is a renowned South African rapper and songwriter. He gained prominence in 2016 with the release of his single “Donsa Nkabi.”
He signed a record deal with Universal Music in 2015, which resulted in the publication of his debut albums “Ushun Wenkabi” in 2018 and “Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe” in 2019.
Big Zulu’s third studio album, “Ichwane Lenyoka,” released in 2021, produced three chart-topping singles: “Mali Eningi,” “Inhlupheko,” and “Umuzi eSandton.” The lead single, “Mali Eningi,” achieved double platinum certification from the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA).
In addition to his music career, Big Zulu made appearances in TV shows such as “Isibaya,” “One Mic” (2017-2020), “Uzalo” (2020), and “Isithembiso.” His achievements include seven South African Hip Hop Awards and one South African Music Award.

Big Zulu, initially started as a taxi driver and transitioned to a music career in 2008. He gained recognition as the “King of Rap” in 2009, winning a rap battle contest. His debut single, which made him famous was “Donsa Nkabi,” which was released in 2016.
From 2014 to 2019, he released albums and singles independently, but in 2015, he signed with Universal Music Records. His debut album, “Ushun Wenkabi,” dropped in July 2018, featuring tracks like “Ang’mazi umama” and “Home.” In 2019, he released “Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe,” with hit singles like “Ak’laleki” and “Ama Million.”
In 2020, he released the successful single “Mali Eningi.” During early 2021, he announced his third studio album and released “Inhlupheko.” Later that year, he released “Umuzi eSandton” and his album “Ichwane Lenyoka.”
September 2021, he won seven awards at the South African Hip Hop Awards and continued to rise in prominence. In 2022, he released several singles, including “iVolovolo” and “Voicemail,” which reached the top of the charts.
In August 2022, he announced the release date for his album, which dropped in September 2022. Also, he released “Dear My Love” in November 2022.
In March 2023, he collaborated with Sjava on the joint album “Ukhamba” as Inkabi Zezwe, releasing “Umbayimbayi.” The album debuted at number one in South Africa and Eswatini.
Aside from his music career, in 2019, Big Zulu founded Inkabi Records and engaged in charity work. In 2020, he became an ambassador for Carvela, partnering with Spitz.
