Henry was raised in Columbus and understood from a young age that she wanted to pursue a career in journalism. Henry grew up watching and looking up to Columbus co-anchor and local Black journalist Yolanda Harris. Henry began researching colleges with outstanding journalism programs as she got closer to high school graduation.
Yolanda was someone on television who resembled me, and Henry emphasized how significant that was. “When my dad and I visited Ohio University, I fell in love with it because it was so stunning.”

When a semi-truck driver allegedly plowed into halted traffic, Alissa and her husband Joe—who also works for ABC6/FOX28—were on their way home from the office. When another vehicle struck the Henrys’ SUV, the SUV was damaged.
