Alex Cullen Career
Cullen started working as a reporter for Wagga Wagga’s Prime News in early 2003. Later, he relocated to Western Australia where he worked as a reporter for Golden West News in Kalgoorlie and Bunbury, where he also took on the role of sports presenter for GWN7. He subsequently started working for Seven News in Perth in 2006, and in 2007 he moved on to become a sports producer for Sunrise. A general reporter for Seven News in Sydney, Cullen made his way back to the screen six months later.
Cullen was hired as the evening sports presenter in January 2009 after Matt White quit to show Today Tonight. He had been the weekend sports presenter since late 2007.
Cullen has worked for 2BS, B-Rock FM, ABC Local Radio, and 2GB in addition to Seven Network.
Cullen was replaced as the evening sports presenter on Seven News Sydney by Tony Squires in April 2010 after Cullen was elevated to reporter for Seven’s Sunday Night Public Affairs show.
After the Seven Network discontinued Sunday Night, it was reported in November 2019 that Cullen will join the Nine Network. Later, it was revealed that Alex would work for the Nine Network throughout the summer, filling in on Today.
Cullen will join Today as a sport presenter beginning in January 2020, the Nine Network announced in December 2019. Tony Jones will be replaced.
Cullen took over as newscaster for Tracy Vo in March 2020 after Vo relocated to Perth as a result of the COVID-19 epidemic.
Cullen was succeeded as Today’s news anchor by Brooke Boney in January 2023. Brooke will cover news and entertainment while Alex will concentrate on sports.
