Ajuri Obari Ngelale is a Nigerian broadcast journalist and politician. He presently holds the position of presidential spokesman for President Bola Tinubu.
Prior to this role, he served as the presidential senior special adviser on public affairs to President Muhammadu Buhari. He also acted as a co-principal spokesperson for Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s presidential campaign council during the 2023 Nigeria presidential elections, which they emerged victorious in. Before his political engagements, he was a senior reporter and presenter at Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Channels Television.

Ngelale was born in Platteville, Wisconsin, United States, to Chief Precious Osaro Ngelale, a Nigerian of Eleme descent, and his mother Diane, a German-American. His mother, Diane, held the position of Social Welfare Director in the Rivers State Government during Governor Melford Okilo’s tenure.
His father, a geologist and politician, was elected to the Rivers State House of Assembly during the Third Republic and served until General Muhammadu Buhari’s military coup in 1983. After the military coup, his family relocated to the United States in 1985. When civilian rule was reinstated in 1999, his father was appointed as a minister in the federal cabinet.

Ngelale’s journalism journey began as a youth corps member at Africa Independent Television, where he was assigned for his one-year national service. Upon completing his national service, he continued working at AIT, initially as an investigative reporter and later held roles as a news editor, producer, and presenter from 2011 to 2016. During his time at AIT, he notably produced two highly regarded public affairs documentary series, “State of the Nation” (2012) and “Diary from the Delta” (2016).
In 2016, he made a transition to Channels Television, where he co-anchored the popular public policy discussion program “Sunrise Daily.” In collaboration with the United States Government’s Mandela Washington Fellowship, he created and presented “Africa’s Future Leaders,” a series highlighting young African leaders making a positive impact on disadvantaged communities through their individual efforts.
2019, Ngelale made the decision to resign from Channels TV and took on the role of lead media content producer for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Next Level Presidential Campaign, which aimed to secure the reelection of President Muhammadu Buhari as part of the Buhari/Osinbajo Presidential Campaign organization. Following their successful victory in the 2019 elections, President Buhari appointed Ngelale as his Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs, a position he held until 2023 when Buhari’s term concluded.
In October 2022, Ngelale was appointed as the co-principal spokesperson for the Tinubu-Shettima Presidential Campaign Organization. His presence extended beyond national platforms, as he frequently appeared on both domestic and international media outlets, including CNN, BBC, and Al-Jazeera.
On July 31, 2023, President Bola Tinubu appointed Ngelale as his official spokesperson, marking a new phase in his career.
